URGENT:Call of Action : Solidarity needed with Mahinour ElMasry and her Fellows detainees

Apparently this country decided to show us more and more of its ugly faces.
I am writing this post in solidarity with the fierce fighter Mahinour ElMasry.
Mahinour is sentenced to jail for 2 years for peaceful protesting. Mahinour is one of the first victims of the notorious Anti protesting legislation, with hinders the right of association and many other related political rights of the Egyptian people.
the system understood that the masses in the streets are the makers of change, they are trying to cartel them again, to imprison them with a wicked notion of "persevering the stability and peace of the society".
Those in power forget that the main reason of unrest is INJUSTICE, DESPOTISM, TYRANNY and POVERTY.

Mahinour was protesting peacefully, in front the court, defending the rights of Egyptians' rights to be safe from torture and right to bodily integrity.
she was protesting in the day of the trial of our revolution icon, Khalid Saied.
Khalid died by savages of the so called police. His death was the fuel of #Jan25 and ironically enough his killers are getting exempting time after time.
and Mahinour is the one to be in Jail. what kind of tragedy we are living in.

I call upon all the believers of social justice in the world to show their support to Mahinour and her fellows in detention.
Mahinour struggled on many fronts, for the prosperity and peace of this country.

I have been once privileged to be near this heroine when she hosted us in her project in her home town, Alexandria, to talk about Nubian question in Egypt.

DETAINTING PROTESTERS IS SHAME ON YOU EGYPT
FREE MAHINOUR AND HER FELLOWS
FREEDOM FOR ALL DETIANEES
UN JUST PASSED A RESOLUTION TO DEFEND WOMEN HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS ..... DEFEND MAHINOUR AS A CASE

Madiba Died

such a sad day.
some facts strike you and show you that in the end you are a human, with limits .
there is fate and you can not deny it or resist it. death is inevitable part of the human life. as much as it hurts, as much as it shows you that every thing must come to an end, regardless how great it is .
i am in grieve because the life of one of my heroes came to an end.
Madiba died.

i am not going to write about his great life, i will write about how he effected my humble life.
i grow up in age where Mandela was almost victorious, when i was a young child, he was set free from his long term prison (27 years). i saw him victorious, i saw him proud and powerful, gaining the benefits of tough struggle.
Madiba was born for Xhosa tribe, in a village far far in the south, in a country suffering from vicious racist system. discrimination, racism and marginalization was the fate of black people in South Africa
Mandela walked a very long walk for freedom, fighting a furious fight against the apartheid.
Mandela is my saint, although some might claim that he used violence at a certain point of time. i still see that legitimate, if you are fighting a horrible tyrant.

Mandela made huge differences in his country and his world. he reached power after years in prison. he stepped down and he continued working for spreading peace in the mother land, Africa.
Mandela changed the social standards about taboos like HIV AIDS, he declared that he lost his son because of this disease.
Dear Mandela, you will always be alive in my heart, i will carry you in my heart as i carry my ancestors. you are our African saint. our Baobab. rest in peace. rest in power.
your loss broke my heart, Madiba
pay your respect, send condolences message to Mandela.

About Amina Wadud : apperciate her Fadl

Amina Wadud, this controversial woman, she is breaking  many gender taboos in Islam, she is pursuing her Gender Jihad  she and many Islamic feminists are ending the male hegemony of producing the religious knowledge. she is evoking Aisha legacy, the woman who conveyed half of Islam to us, according to the Prophet(peace be upon him) speech.
Wadud is a typical example of how media and public opinion is biased and selective, that they transmit the knowledge in a way that shape the opnion of the people.
and is the case of Wadud, she was brutalized because she was out of the herd, and she implemented the Quranic order : Don't you think or contemplate.
these photos are the acknowledgment of AlAzhar, the supreme religious authority n Egypt of Wadud first book Women and Quran, in 2006.
in the report of approving the book which follows says that the approach of Amina Wadud of interpreting Quran in a holistic way and considering the main goals of Sharia مقاصد الشرع , not by each and every verse alone and considering the reasons of revelation and the context is in accordance with the Islamic tradition of Tafseer or interpreting Quran.
Prof Amina blogs

if it was easier to you to define her as a heretic because she lead a prayer, think again about this female fiqha
and i am proud to be her student

 the photos are in Arabic.

A FRIDAY Revolts in Sudan Celebrating Women

A personal note:

Africa is a community that cherished its women
still there is rooted patriarchy
but there is a so called matriarchal tendencies
Kandaka means strong women in Nubian Language
very proud that a Nubian word will be immortal

via Girifna

 ‬

Kendakh in the Cushitic (Nubian)  language means strong women, which was used by the Kushites to refer to their queens.
The women and mothers of Sudan have endured a lot in this period of NCP ruling ( Ingaz).
They have endured their husbands being forced out of work through nepotism and the deterioration of living standards.
They have endured their children being sent to concentration camps known as the Popular Defense.
They have endured their children being sent to the National Service, wherein they face humiliating and degrading treatment (if you recall the incident of  Alaelfon).
They have endured the plague of war and displacement of their families under the name of religion (Just as what had happened in the South).
They grew tired and fed up of poverty and hunger.
They have endured the illness of their children, when they can’t afford the medications.
And they remained patient.

Kendakh Friday : 07/13/2012
In solidarity with the mothers and women of Sudan, means solidarity with all the issues of the homeland.
In solidarity with the mothers of detainees, means solidarity with all detainees.
In solidarity with the mothers and women of Sudan, means solidarity against high prices and low standards of living (tight living).

And I say it wholehearted I support #SudanRevolts

In the past two weeks or slightly more days ago, I learned a lot about myself and others.
An important development happened in my life, it is the spark of the Sudanese revolution. I found myself having the same hope, passion and fear which I felt in the 18 days of our Egyptian revolution.
One might be surprised, or wonder why is that?,
simply I feel that I belong to this country in the south of the borders, Sudan. And this is a very subjective claim, as I do not believe in the fallacy of objectivity and I believe that our interests and affiliations are built according to our socialization process, available information  and later on personal preferences.
I am Nubian and I was raised in a house where Mama enjoys Mohamed Wardy songs, and my auntie neighbors are Sudanese and they have the nicest daughter ever and she was one of my favorite childhood friends. I had problems when I was young to understand why they are not Egyptians or why we are not Sudanese, why we are not the same in front of law, because in little Fatma's perspective we are the same. It was difficult to have a clear perception on the idea of an imaginary line cutting my Nubian community into pieces, in the north Egyptian Nubia and in the south Sudanese Nubia.
Years later I grew up to understand a bit about politics, actually I studied politics. So I get to know more about nation-state concept and how it was created through a very Euro centric perspective. It is just a treat for colonizers to enjoy equal shares of their victims’ wealth. Just have a look to the geometric borders of Africa, which show that the colonizers cut it into pieces regardless any ethnic or cultural or tribal ties between the nations, not the so called countries. And what really irritates that the newly independent African countries agreed through the African Unity organization to “guard and respect these borders”. This is about the context.
In addition to this, I have passion about studying countries where religion and power govern the society. That’s why I was fond of both Iran and Sudan were the best examples for my assignment in the faculty. I loved the struggles against militarization and theocratic rule. I really hate that the tough guys who have weapons invade the public space to change every aspect of life to be power related, where coercion becomes the rule.
And what I hate more the manipulation of the people by using the words of Allah and claiming that the Ayatt Allah or Sheikhs claiming that they the absolute truth or the one and only interpretation of the sacred texts, is just ridiculous and naïve.

in addition to the list of things i hated,  Sudan is the land of people who changed my life like the late Mohamed Mahmoud Taha, and Abduallahi Naiem who is my soul saver, because of his interpretations of Islam i kept my faith and finally the late Tayab Saleh who was my hero only because he deconstructed the notion of masculinity in his master piece, the season of migration to the north.
I never knew that what I hated in other countries will be my homeland’s destiny, gang of military junta and fundamentalists are fighting to control my beloved homeland.
In nutshell, I am not supporting Sudan because merely being Nubian, the ethnic background is a reason, but not the only reason, I support their noble struggle against militarization, fundamentalism, corruption, years and years of Human Rights atrocities, rivers of blood of war causalities and TYRANNY.
And I say it wholehearted I support #SudanRevolts

Kareema Fatah el Rahman writes her testimony on her detention
i was arrested in one of the protests in Khartoum streets, along with two colleagues a female journalist and a male photographer. they chased us by the car and that lead to a horrible car accident and the car of my photographer colleague was damaged.
they grabbed us from the car in a very violent way, they were beating us on the head and on the face and elsewhere in the body by hands and by batons and their hands. then they took us to the police vehicle, and the ordered us to lay on the floors, faces to the floor and not to open our eyes. they continued beating up through the journey of transmitting us to the security offices.
they took our keys, mobile phone and every thing we posses, i even did not know what exactly they took because i was not allowed to look.
when we arrived to the security offices, they  order us to keep our eyes closed and they moved
With continuous beating with hands and batons, in addition to the verbal violence especially to us as women, that we are not modest women, we are trash, and we do not have families. They were looking to us and saying " ladies never protests " . our male colleague was taken to another place and they took me and my female colleague to an alley. They ordered us to set down and to face the wall . they interrogated us twice and they told us that they are monitoring our phones and Face Book accounts . then they transferred us the political security bureaus in the University street with other detainees from other districts .

Bruises as result of the brutal beating
And around 11 pm. When we were seated on chairs, when other female detainees joined us, we stayed there till 3pm of the next day.  They interrogated us, the main questions were what is your tribe, where do you come from, are you married and questions about the protest and being in the street . they insulted us a lot and many personal questions like why do not you have Henna?  And they forced me to give them my Face Book and emails pass words
After the interrogation  we stayed till 8 pm, then a person came and gave as a mobile phone to call or folks to come to escort us. We signed a plea that we will not participated in an y protest . they did not give me my mobile back, by the pretext that they will check the numbers, calls and the text messages .us from the vechile harshly

Women Make Revolutions

women blocking the road on 21st of June 2012 in Khartoum Bahary

women do not make sandwiches
women make revolutions
women make dreams come true
this is a photo taking in Danakala district in Khartoum Bahary in Sudan
women are blocking the streets and protesting
women were the main target of the military junta and the fundamentalists in Sudan

they can be flogged for wearing pants and they can be stoned for committing "adultery"
women were subjected to the fanaticism and patriarchy of the army and the Islamists , there is an unfair law of rape, which deals with the raped woman as sinner  and laws restricting every aspect of their life.  and she can be raped for asking for democracy like Safia Ishak

that's why the women started the revolution, the girls dorms was the spark of the revolution.
Yosra Sabir  wrote a heart breaking post  (Arabic) about the conditions of the female students in Khartoum, where the poverty and despotism kill their youthful joy . and that's why that women are participating heavily in the revolts and they are making the news. like the journalist Maha Sonosy who was detained then freed yesterday and she was dragged out of the closet to be declared as Girifina member.

Awadia was murdered by the brutal racist police in 5 March 2012

stay strong sisters, you will topple the dictator along with all the misogyny
love and peace will pervail

Sudan Revolts...

I am not  fan of the pan Arabism, I always believed that it kills the uniqueness of the local cultures and it creates fake supremacy for the Arab Islamic culture on the other cultures. I never thought that the Arab world is one big homeland. However I think I need to revisit this notion. The Arab spring is my reason, that I have been taught that the history, language and religion is the common ground between the 22 countries. But for me the common ground is the same context, the despotism, rise of fundamentalism, dangers of sectarianism , economic deficit and the last variable is the hope for better future.
Torch of freedom Mohamed BouAzizi RIP

I still remember the first spark, there is SidiBouZid in Tunisia, when BouAzizi burnt his body to light a candle of hope to all of us.  Then the torch of freedom reached us in Egypt, then Bahrain, then Libya then Syria and now we have a new member in the team of freedom seekers. Sudan.
I have to say that I am attached to Sudan as any Nubian, and I still see it part of my homeland, and I do not take the line 22 as a border, that my family and my ethnicity are living behind this fake borders.
a recent photo of the revolts in Sudan

Sudan is this magical land where they revolted against the military junta, fundamentalism , Arabisation and Human rights atrocities.  They started revolting since Mahdi revolution, 1964 and 1985.
Sudan was the food basket of the world and the tyrant made it one of the poorest and failed states, they drawn the country in racism and wars. Genocides and massacres took place in Nuba mountain , East , and Darfur .
And the international community and the Arab region participated by neglecting and even supporting Bashir, who is a fugitive and a warrant was issued by the International criminal court against him in March 2009.
And now after 23 of poverty, wars , despotism, human rights violations and fanaticism , Sudan Revolts …..

After cutting the subsidies of fuel, the revolts started, by women in the students dorms. And this is important to remark, kindly do not ask where were the women, they STARTED it , even before, Safia Ishak a member in the Sudanese pro democratic movement Girifina ( WE ARE FEDUP) was beaten and raped in detention and she released a video just before the revolts.
The problem is in my opinion is the media block out which gives a bullet to the tyrant to kill another victim, up till now the media coverage is not enough and that is problematic because it deprives Sudanese people from the needed international support.
I think social media can help another population, kindly spread the word
