Nubian cause: History and Developments
Nubian cause started in 1898 as an African community divided by the colonizer. in 1898, the British colonizer divided the historical Nubia to Egyptian Nubia in the north and Sudanese Nubia in the south, since then and misery started.
the Nubian land was a target for the colonizer plans. Nubian land was subjected to dam building and that lead to serious of forced displacements, Nubians were displaced in 1902, 1912 and 1932. Every time Nubians wake up at the scene of water flooding their homes. They did not have any assistance from the Egyptian governments. If you want to read the misery in details, I advise you to read "AlShamendora" novel of Mohamed Khalil Qassem, to know the story of the old traditional Nubian society an the attack of forced displacement. Nubians migrated to Cairo, Alexandria and Suez canal cities.
the misery reached its peak in the 1960's under the regime of Nasser the Arabist regime. Egyption Nubia was drown completely under the water of biggest artificial lake in the world. It was named after the name of the Nubia executioner, Nasser lake or Nubia lake, as it should be named.
Nubians lost the assets, land, culture and identity and add to this, they lost HOME. Nubians were forced to stay in inadequate environment in Komo Ombo valley far from the Nile river, the main vain of Nubian life.
this is our dark painful past, the painful present started with the revolution in 2011, from 1964 to 2011, all the governments denied Nubains their right. the revolution made The Egyptians to move towards freedom, dignity and liberty to end decades of tyranny, despotism and injustice. Nubians claimed their rights and they were presented in two committees to draft the constitutions, started with Manal el Tabie, who was forced to give up her mission because of the pressures on Muslim brotherhood. el Tabie was followed by the renowned novelist, Haggag Adoul.
I was lucky to assist Adoul, he managed to draft "some" rights of Nubians in the constitution of 2014. we were granted the right to return to the historical land in phase of 10 years. the constitution stipulated the right to cultural diversity. the non discrimination article criminalized discrimination based race, color and geographical origin.
but the government did not respect its obligations, in the end of 2014, a presidential decree no 444 of the military borders, which considered 17 Nubian villages in the historical land military borders, then the presidential decree 355 considered Toshka and Farqondy which is Nubian land. in addition to seizing the west of Aswan land.
that's why Nubians protested on 3rd of September to refuse all the denial and violations of Nubian rights. 25 person are detained since then.

Days of Fear and Agony
I am writing these speculations on the tide of terrorist attacks in Egypt.
These days are hard...tough...painful ...
I hate how I feel... I hate that I deal with cold blood with the number of the victims...I hate that I deal with them as absoulte number.....
These days show me the stupid polarisation in our society...I hate that each trench sees the victims of its enemy as a murder...and do not even pay respect to his death....
These days when the blood is so cheap ....why is the amount of blood is shed..who is the victrious....who will gain power on our dead bodies....
These days remind me with my childhood in the ninteies...when all the places were under attack...when a kid in my age was killed in her school, when the terrorists were targeting the prime minister at that time...
Why fear is my companion up till now...why me and generation spend our childhood and youth in agony and totured by fear...
Why anybody think that violence is a tool or answer of any deadlock....why do we have to be in pain...
When this will come to an end...

featured in Carter Center
Fatma Emam
"There are so many women who like me defied their families," Emam told Bloomberg News at the time. "The revolution is not only taking place in Tahrir, it is taking place in every Egyptian house. It is the revolution of fighting the patriarch."
As a young woman in a religiously conservative and patriarchal society, Emam faces risks both in her life and work as a researcher at Nazra for Feminist Studies, a feminist NGO in Cairo that seeks to advance knowledge related to gender equality and rethink gender roles.
"Even if I am afraid, so what? I just have one life so I must live it as best I can," she said. "I am a typical Egyptian woman; we are fighting for our rights every day. We exist and we are visible."
Several months after the revolution, Emam shared her experiences with other activists at a human rights defenders forum at The Carter Center, where a diverse group of believers, scholars, activists, and traditional leaders from 22 countries met to discuss the impact, both positive and negative, that religious and cultural institutions have on women's rights globally.
Before the forum began, Emam also led a workshop for participants about the benefits of using social media like Facebook and Twitter to change social norms and raise voices.
"Social media can be used to connect a bigger mass of people all over the world for social justice because it highlights a lot of issues," she said. "It is an alternative platform for information, not like the mainstream media."
The workshop was part of two days of technical training for activists on topics such as local fundraising, the use of social media and technology, successes and challenges of working within historically patriarchal contexts, and using the arts in advocacy campaigns.
"Advancement of human rights must come from within society, so The Carter Center works to bolster the efforts of local activists who accept great personal risks in the pursuit of human freedom," said Karin Ryan, director of the Center's Human Rights Program. "We also connect them with each other to share experiences and engage them with new audiences to expand and innovate their efforts."
In February 2013, The Carter Center will host human rights defenders and religious leaders in Cairo to further explore the role of religion in advancing the human rights of women. This event will encourage greater efforts by the leaders of major faiths to ensure that women everywhere enjoy the respect and protections of universal human rights.
For Fatma Emam, the fight for human rights takes place every day in her life and work.
"It is all about fighting for your space. You have to push, push, push until you maximize your space. It's a long-term effort, but we need to start by talking about the problems, like how we are perceiving women, especially in religion," she said.
